Gothenburg – Hawa Nyende, Rashidah Kasauli Namisanvu and Michael Kizito successfully defended their PhDs on June 8, 10 and 11, 2020 respectively.

The BRIGHT project aims at contributing towards sustainable socio-economic growth in Uganda through capacity building in Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) research. BRIGHT is a research partnership between Makerere University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda, and, University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology of Sweden. The project is supported by Sida under the Mak-Sida Bilateral Cooperation 2015-2020. The Project Investigators are Professor Michel Chaudron and Associate Professor Urban Ask on the Swedish Side and Associate Professor Engineer Bainomugisha on the Ugandan side.

The three BRIGHT Sida beneficiaries defended their PhDs from the University of Gothenburg, department of applied IT and Chalmers University of Technology, department of computer science and software engineering.

Hawa Nyende was supervised by Jonas Landgren, Urban Ask, Berner Lindstrom from the University of Gothenburg and Peter Nabende from Makerere University. Rashidah Kasauli was supervised by Eric Knauss from Chalmers | University of Gothenburg, and Benjamin Kanagwa from Makerere University. Michael Kizito was supervised by Johan Magnusson, Tomas Lindroth from the University of Gothenburg and Evelyn Kigozi Kahiigi from Makerere University.

Their research is in the areas of health informatics and agile software engineering.
“Our research provides insights into the role and governance of IT aimed at transforming healthcare in developing and developed contexts. In addition, it provides insights into applying agile software development methods in large scale companies to benefit societal needs.”
