Introduction

Students pursuing master’s programme in Computer Science, software engineering or Information Technology at Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences are invited to apply for a supplementary grant to enable them to successfully complete a high-quality thesis resulting into completion of theirs Master’s Program and publication of their dissertation in a peer-reviewed journal.  ONLY research projects focusing on Automated Microscopy Diagnosis and surveillance of Malaria, TB or cancer will be considered.

Eligibility criteria

  • Registered at Masters Level at Makerere University, College of Computing and Information Sciences.
  • Applicants must have completed their course work year and ready to embark on the second year of their Master’s course.
  • On normal academic progress.
  • The applicants must be ready to work hard to complete the Master’s program within one year including a publication.

Students who already have funding for their research should NOT apply.

Scholarship Offer

The scholarship covers research costs and tuition fees for one year at Makerere University for two students. The scholarship funding will be compliant with the official scholarship schemes of the project.

Application requirements

  • A research concept paper (not more than 5 pages) is mandatory. The concept note must include a title for the proposed study, brief background highlighting key literature, research problem, main research question(s) / objectives, Justification, Methods and a list of key references.
  • A 1 paged personal statement outlining how this thesis will contribute to your scientific career.
  • A brief budget (up to the allowable limit) should be included.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
