Dr. Sarah Kaddu took over as the new Dean of the East African School Library & Information Sciences(EASLIS) having been serving as the Head of the Department of Library and Information Sciences at EASLIS which she handed over to Dr. Clementine. Dr. Sarah has been operating at EASLIS for over 10 years in different capacities such as Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, HOD, and now a new Dean of the school.

The occasion was graced by different university stakeholders including Dr. Peter Nabende, the AG—Deputy Principal of CoCIS, who represented Prof. Tonny Oyana, the College Principal, Heads of Department, College Registrar, and Ms. Winnie Mbabazi the Internal Auditor among others.

During her inaugural speech, she said ” I believe that the future will be guided by a relationship of trust between all organs of the school. Nothing would make me proud today than to be able to participate in a role in conducting and leading this great school,”.

She thanked the outgoing Dean. Prof. C. Okello Obura whose commitment has laid a firm foundation for this school.

She further promised to run an open-door policy when it comes to leadership and told members of the school to feel free to share ideas with her as regards the growth and development of the school.

“This school will be a school that seeks and needs a real cause, its commitment to society. I’m sure it will have a lot, a lot to give, and certainly also to receive. Our school is not an isolated entity, but an integral part of the broader community. We must. And we will forge strong alliances with industry leaders, academic institutions, and other safe orders to foster innovation, research, and experiential learning opportunities.” says Dr. Sarah.

Dr. Peter Nabende who represented the College Principal in his speech welcomed Dr. Sarah in her new leadership position and promised support and cooperation. He further thanked the outgoing Dean Prof. Obura for having steered the school to greater heights and said that there are many things he personally benefited from him and he looks up to the outgoing Dean Prof. Obura in so many ways.

The outgoing Dean Prof. C. Okello Obura in his handover speech said that he was so happy to have served the school in different capacities including previously where he was the HOD, College Principal, and the dean. Now as he was handing over. he also said that Dr. Sarah has also made a record of being the first female dean of EASLIS. He also gave a brief History of the School, which started in 1963. He said that he was happy to have transformed the school and built capacity so that after four years it has people who qualify to be Substantially appointed in different Higher leadership potions.
