Huawei Onboards Seven Makerere Graduates Under 2025 ICT Talent Development Initiative – Begins six-month professional training

Huawei Technologies Uganda has announced the onboarding of seven Makerere University graduates under its 2025 ICT Talent Development Programme, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing young professionals equipped with practical industry-ready skills.

The new recruits, drawn from the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), were selected following Huawei’s campus recruitment engagement held at Makerere University in July 2025. They have now commenced a six-month intensive training in various ICT domains aimed at enhancing their technical competencies and preparing them for successful careers in the technology sector.

Speaking about the development, Ms. Shamillah Nantume, Senior Human Resource Specialist at Huawei Technologies Uganda, said the program is designed to equip fresh graduates with critical ICT skills and knowledge to help them stand out in the competitive job market.

“The training will ensure that our trainees are well prepared for the demands of the ICT industry—whether they continue with Huawei or join other companies. We aim to build a pool of highly skilled professionals who can contribute to Uganda’s digital transformation,” Ms. Nantume noted.

She commended Makerere University for its ongoing partnership and dedication to producing capable and motivated graduates who are well-suited for industry needs.

Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaborations with universities through recruitment and capacity-building initiatives that foster innovation, practical training, and the growth of Uganda’s ICT ecosystem.
