Assoc. Prof. David Luyombya – HoD, Records & Archives Management

The Department of Records and Archives Management is one of the two departments that form the East African School of Library and Information Sciences of the Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS).

The department trains students in the concepts of records processing and organization, record keeping practices, management of electronic records in contemporary society, office supplies and materials management, records management and the law management of business records paleography and oral history management government information resources and systems records storage and security, digital preservation and management of museums. The department prepares its graduates to acquire the knowledge required to ensure accountability transparency and good governance which are the essential foundations of effective public administration

Greetings from the Records and Archives Management (RAM) Department.

The East African School of Library and Information Sciences EASLIS) is home to the RAM Department. The Department pushes new techniques in both teaching and learning as well as research, with the goal of excellence. Strong strategic alignment with the public and private sector partnerships, support this. Through its equity, diversity, and inclusion practices and activities, the Department is steadfastly committed to serving all of its students.

With an emphasis on the fundamental, theoretical, and applied aspects of contemporary records and archives administration and its role in society, the Department’s education programs offer both general and specialized records and archives disciplines. We provide a Master of Science in Records program and undergraduate training in records and archives management.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Makerere University’s new Impact 2030 Strategic Plan, and health, land, and digitization in general are the Department’s top strategic priorities. The Department wants to advance and take the lead in Records archives management technologies. Creating networks of collaboration are essential components of the Departments education and research strategy.
