The Center for Innovations and Professional Skills Development (CIPSD) is a highly regarded unit in Makerere University and plays a significant role in providing individuals with practical computer knowledge and skills to support a 21st century knowledge-based economy. The center strategically offers training that is responsive to the needs of society. This is achieved through tailoring courses towards what the industry demands. The Center has been at the forefront in assisting government and other organizations to build human capacity with various ICT skills. The Center has the capacity to enroll thousands of students per annum because it has a number of large-sized and modern computer laboratories with a high -seater capacity.

The CIPSD’s mission is twofold; firstly, to offer ICT professional skills development and incubation of new ideas, as well as, nurture new technology-based businesses; and secondly to augment theoretical computing knowledge among individuals and ground them with relevant professional ICT skills for their specific needs.

In addition to providing first class training and consultancy services, the Centre also offers state-of the-art training in Cisco Networking Academy courses, the Microsoft IT Academy Program for Microsoft related courses, IC3 Digital literacy, the International Computer Driving License course, Oracle 19C Certified Training courses, the Huawei ICT academy training courses.

Since 2016 the Center has trained over 4,500 undergraduate students during the recess term and through boot camp& master classes initiatives.

The Center is obligated to participate in any project that enhances inclusion and access to quality ICTs by all persons in the country and internationally as evidenced through the Center’s global partnerships with several international testing Institutions.

At CIPSD we are an authorized Global Testing Center that hosts the Pearson VUE, Prometric, IC3, ICDL, ISACA/PSI and Kryterion Certification Examinations. A significant number of Professionals from all over East and Central Africa sit their international certification exams at this Center because of the strong, credible and successful track record of more than twenty-three years.
